Kaoprise Beauty is a social enterprise run by and for the Mon women refugees from Myanmar living in Malaysia.
It empowers Mon women refugees by teaching soap-making and business skills, providing income-generation opportunities and supporting community projects for women and children.
Investing in Women
Half of the revenue from sales are reinvested in the Mon community. The Mon Women Refugee Organization uses the money to fund special projects for women and children.
The projects include classes with topics like gender-based violence as well as providing financial support for health issues such as pregnancy and late delivery.
Beauty with Meaning
For the Mon women refugees, the kaoprise flower is a symbol of livelihood, harmony and collaboration.
The kaoprise is a winter blossom that the women in Myanmar harvest once a year. When the red and yellow flowers fall from the tree, women work in teams to gather the versatile flowers that are used for many purposes, from food to shampoo.
